Black Dove is a collection of four novellas that focus on mystery, intrigue and romance. They follow the adventures of several women who, in searching for their muse, take a different, more spiritual direction. They are artists, writers and poets—talented creative women who are seeking intellectual enlightenment. Along the way, they encounter mysterious situations and enigmatic characters who throw their world into turmoil and change the course of their destiny.
Their philosophy stems from the romantic artists, the Pre-Raphaelites—the pursuit of truth and beauty—but they find themselves meeting darker elements, facing personal dilemmas and venturing into exciting mysteries. They believe in a dream and know that sometimes it has to be struggled for, and that some people may disrupt their search, while others enhance their journey. The stories unfold as the characters make significant revelations, bringing them closer to their idyll.
The stories are set in a number of locations that match the atmosphere of the tales: a haunted inn in Cornwall, on a houseboat on the canal at Little Venice, at a castle in southern-west Ireland, on Glastonbury Tor. They include romantic visual imagery combined with contemporary, artistic and mind-body-spirit themes, and are interlaced with psychological suspense, the occult and the paranormal.
The stories evolve as the women embark on a journey of personal and spiritual growth, on a path towards realising their dream.
There is now also a soundtrack for the book, consisting of ambient instrumental music, including a Sennen surfing song, which sets the scene for the readers as they read. It can be bought in the form of a CD. Also called Black Dove, it is composed by Richard Shiells. It retails at £5.00 (11 tracks), and can be ordered via bridgettedove@msn.com.
